Tottenham Hotspur are still negotiating with Italian champions Milan over a potential exit for Japhet Tanganga before next week’s transfer deadline.

This is according to Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking about the future of the English defender on the Que Golazo YouTube channel.

The two clubs have reportedly been in prior conversation over a possible deal for the 23-year-old, with Fabio Paratici even flying out to Italy to hold talks.

A loan deal with an option to buy is what is believed to be the likely deal that could be struck between the two sides, with Milan looking to add to their English influence in defence, with Fikayo Tomori a regular feature of the Rossoneri backline.

As Paratici continues his mission to offload Spurs’ outcasts, Romano now believes there are ongoing talks to secure Tanganga a move to the San Siro.

He said: “AC Milan want to sign a new centre-back and they are negotiating with Tottenham for Tanganga, who is an option on loan with [a] buy option or obligation. So there are negotiations ongoing.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

It is apparent the 23-year-old is not in the plans of Antonio Conte, who is yet to use the Englishman this season with just two appearances on the bench to his name.

Is Tanganga good enough for Spurs?

Yes

Yes

No

No

With this in mind, we think allowing Tanganga to depart would be a smart move, as he is a player who has struggled to claim a regular spot in the Spurs side, with regular injury issues proving a big issue.

But allowing Tanganga to leave would remove one of Conte’s options from the bench, so it would be interesting to see if this puts Spurs back in the market for a centre-back.

Spurs have acquired Clement Lenglet, however, the Frenchman and Cristian Romero have already suffered from injuries, which will surely be on Conte’s mind if Tanganga is to depart.
