Out of their six summer signings, Tottenham Hotspur fans are only likely to see Ivan Perisic start at the weekend.
This has been suggested by insider Dean Jones, who has been telling The Done Deal Show what he has heard about Antonio Conte’s expected starting XI.
The Lilywhites kick off the new campaign with a home clash against Southampton on Saturday after a mixed set of pre-season results.
It was a busy start to the summer window for Spurs as six new faces arrived through the door, with Richarlison and Yves Bissouma the two big-money incomings at Hotspur Way.
However, Jones has been told not to expect too many of the new signings to actually start on Saturday, with the Croatian wing-back potentially the only new face to be involved in the starting XI.
He said: “I texted someone today because I was trying to figure out what Tottenham’s first XI will look like on the first day of the season and who would play. And the guy I was messaging, he’s very well-connected in terms of getting the lineups. And he said, ‘I wouldn’t be surprised if Perisic is the only one on show out of the new signings’.”
TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…
Would you start Bissouma on Saturday?
Meanwhile, the Croatian started at the weekend against Roma. The only other two new faces we feel are in contention of starting are Yves Bissouma and Clement Lenglet.
The fitness of Ben Davies may still be in doubt come the weekend and Lenglet did impress on Saturday, while it seems there is still competition for the spot in central midfield between Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur and Bissouma.
