Journalist Ben Bocsak believes that Brazilian youngster Marcos Leonardo, who has been linked to Liverpool this summer, is similar to a young and raw Luis Suarez.
After selling players like Sadio Mane and Neco Williams and bringing in young superstar striker Darwin Nunez, as well as future prospects Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay, Liverpool have fallen relatively quiet in the transfer window with under a week to go before the start of the season.
However, according to reports in Brazil, they could be eyeing up a move for Santos wonderkid Marcos Leonardo, and Bocsak believes it would be a good move for the Merseyside club as he reminds him of a young Suarez.
Bocsak told the Blood Red YouTube channel: “In terms of Marcos Leonardo, he’s a very talented player. He’s played a lot of games for Santos, even though he’s still a teenager. And he seems fast, very physical despite his stature – I think he’s only 5’9”.
“But he has an eye for a goal and he just kind of reminds me a little bit of a raw, young Luis Suarez, and I think that’s all Liverpool need as an explanation or as an incentive if they are to sign him…
“I think it would be a shrewd signing if Liverpool were to get him.”
TIF Thoughts on Leonardo to Liverpool…
Liverpool have been very aggressive in improving their attacking options in recent seasons, bringing in the likes of Nunez, Carvalho and Luis Diaz, while selling some of their top players like Mane – while Roberto Firmino has also been linked with a summer exit.
Leonardo could be the next young superstar they bring in and would be a welcome addition after putting up 15 goals and five assists in all competitions while averaging 2.9 shots per game – which would rank joint-second among Liverpool players last season – as well as drawing 2.5 fouls per match, which would comfortably lead the Reds in 2021/22.
While it is currently unknown how much the 19-year-old would cost the Premier League club, after selling Mane and the potential uncertainty surrounding Firmino, Liverpool may well be able to afford the forward and could again bring another young superstar to England.
