Journalist Dean Jones has claimed he believes Harry Kane might not necessarily be in a rush to sign a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur.

Kane has two years remaining on his current contract with the club, but Football.London has claimed that a new deal is expected to come in the next few weeks.

The striker was in inspired form in the second half of last season, ending the campaign with 17 goals and nine assists in 37 Premier League games, while he is reportedly open to signing a new deal with the club.

Although there are reports claiming that Kane is open to signing a new deal with Spurs, Jones spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that he might not be in a rush to sign a new contract.

“It’ll come onto the agenda for sure because Tottenham will look to talk to him once the window closes about where things are going, although I don’t know if Kane will necessarily be in a rush to sign it,” Jones said.

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

The Spurs faithful will be hoping that Kane puts pen to paper on a new deal given the previous uncertainty surrounding his future in north London, with the striker appearing close to moving to Manchester City this time last year.

However, Kane has two years remaining on his current contract meaning that he will be well into his early 3os when it expires, so he might be keen to hold off on penning a new deal, to make a move elsewhere easier if he wants to exit with the hope of winning a trophy.

Spurs have signed six new players this summer and emphatically won 4-1 on the opening day of the season, so this could be a sign of things to come – and if they continue to win games and look like they might win silverware, then it may be more likely that the England skipper will stay.
