Semra Hunter of La Liga TV has been speaking on the Loaded Mag YouTube channel about Newcastle United transfer target Raul de Tomas.

With just a few weeks now left of the transfer window, PIF and Eddie Howe are going to have to work extremely hard on the transfer front if they are to improve their attacking line, which was evidently lacking on Saturday.

The Magpies failed to register a shot on target across 90 minutes against Brighton & Hove Albion and needed Nick Pope to be in top form to ensure they left the Amex with a point.

And with links to the likes of Goncalo Ramos and De Tomas floating around, it may be a matter of time before a breakthrough emerges.

Hunter, who covers La Liga extensively, believes that De Tomas has a lot of self-confidence and even likened him to Cristiano Ronaldo in that sense.

She said: “I quite like him. I think that he is going from strength to strength, he’s got oodles of personality, and let’s say charisma, for lack of a better word. He has lots of self-confidence.

Who would you rather Newcastle signed?

De Tomas!

Isak!

“I think he kind of fancies himself to be Cristiano Ronaldo in the making – I mean, that kind of level of self-belief and arrogance and confidence.

“So I could actually see him fitting in quite well to the Premier League, being a much more physical league than it is here in Spain. He’s not exactly tall in stature, but he is quite robust and he’s quick, so I think he could be a really good option, actually, now that I think about it.

“I think he could be a better fit, a more suitable fit than Alexander Isak.”

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

It is quite an interesting take from Hunter to claim that De Tomas would be a better fit than Alexander Isak considering it was reported earlier in the summer that the Magpies were going to make a move for the Swedish striker, only for his price tag to put them off.

However, when you compare the two of them from last season, De Tomas outperformed Isak in the final third, registering 20 goal involvements to the Sweden international’s eight, despite the former playing for Espanyol, who finished some eight places behind Real Sociedad last term, so there could well be a case for De Tomas fitting in well on Tyneside if they were to make a late-window move.
