Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Christian Pulisic was discussed by Newcastle United a few days ago as a potential transfer target.

It has been very well-documented that Newcastle are starting to now look at the loan market, with Conor Gallagher, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Armando Broja and Pulisic all said to be of interest to Eddie Howe.

The latter is said to be a leading target according to Luke Edwards, which makes sense given his need for game time ahead of the World Cup, and something may be closer than expected given he was said to have been a topic of discussion for Amanda Staveley when she attended Stamford Bridge on Sunday, according to Jacobs.

Pulisic would be an instant starter for Newcastle in the eyes of Jacobs, who spoke about the American winger on The Done Deal Show.

“Newcastle are also looking at a loan deal for Christian Pulisic as well, and the ownership groups, as I’ve just said, were at Stamford Bridge for the Chelsea-Spurs game only a few days ago, and Pulisic was a player that was discussed.”

Would Pulisic be a starter for Newcastle?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

The fact that Newcastle and Chelsea have already discussed Pulisic would not only suggest he is someone they believe they can attain this summer, but also that he may well be open to a move – which may not be a huge surprise as he’d likely start for them every week, as Jacobs went on to talk about.

He added: “If you throw him into the Newcastle side, I would say that he’s an automatic starter and there’s real energy and Eddie Howe is very hands-on.”

TIF Thoughts on interest in Pulisic…

As things stand, Miguel Almiron appears to be Eddie Howe’s first-choice right-winger in the 4-3-3 formation, with his energy and ability to press undoubted, as he currently ranks second for the number of pressures and places in the top 1% when it comes to tackles compared to players in his position over the past year (as per FBref), so he can defend effectively from the front.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

However, it’s the Paraguayan’s attacking output which has always been lacking in the Premier League, as his best return in front of goal is just four league strikes, whereas that is the lowest return Pulisic has ever managed in England.

Therefore, it would be a very obvious and clear upgrade for Newcastle if they could sell the project to the American superstar and show how he would get guaranteed game time ahead of the World Cup with the United States.
