Newcastle United have an interest in midfielder Conor Gallagher, who could be made available to leave this summer on loan.
This is according to Fabrizio Romano, who has been discussing what may still be in store for the Tyneside club on the Que Golazo YouTube channel.
Newcastle have been linked with a number of midfielders this summer, with the likes of James Maddison and Lucas Paqueta both said to be on Dan Ashworth’s radar.
Now with just 14 days remaining in this summer’s window, the Tyneside club are still yet to secure a deal for a single non-defensive player.
However, Romano believes the Toon could look to bring in the Chelsea midfielder on a loan deal, with his game time at Stamford Bridge now uncertain following just five minutes of action so far this season.
He said: “For sure, Conor Gallagher is part of the list. He’s a player they love, but it depends on Thomas Tuchel; it depends on Chelsea. So they will need to wait a bit on Gallagher and see what Tuchel will decide.”
TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…
Bruno Guimaraes arrived at Newcastle back in January and provided an unexpected attacking threat for a player who typically played as a deeper-lying midfielder for Lyon (via Transfermarkt).
Would you want Gallagher at NUFC?
Yes
No
With this in mind, Gallagher, who has been hailed as ‘extraordinary‘ by his current manager, could certainly take some of the pressure off the Brazilian’s shoulders in an attacking sense, having shone for Crystal Palace last season.
And if a player such as Paqueta is the long-term target for Newcastle, a loan deal for Gallagher would make a lot of sense in providing a quality addition until next summer when the Toon may look to land a big-money signing.
