Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that there is going to be somebody who tries their luck and submits an offer for Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.
According to Sky Sports, Ronaldo is still keen on leaving Old Trafford.
On a personal level, Ronaldo was in fine form during his comeback season at Manchester United, featuring 38 times in all competitions and finding the back of the net 24 times, whilst also chipping in with three assists along the way.
With Ronaldo still seeming like he wants to leave United this summer, Jacobs spoke on The Done Deal Show and claimed that he feels a club will come in for the Portugal ace with either a loan or a permanent deal.
He said: “I think, talking to sources, what we are going to see is somebody trying their luck with a concrete offer for Cristiano Ronaldo before the window shuts – whether permanent or loan. And only then are we going to see whether Manchester United’s ‘not for sale’ stance is genuine, or just something that they’re putting out at the moment in terms of PR.”
Will Ronaldo stay at United?
TIF Thoughts on Jacobs’ comments…
It would be a huge loss for United if Ronaldo was to leave the club this summer as his goal involvements last term were key. Their next highest goalscorer in the 2021/22 Premier League campaign was Bruno Fernandes with 10 – eight fewer than the Portuguese forward.
However, if he really does want to leave the club this summer, it might be best for Erik ten Hag to cash in on him and look for a replacement, because having a player in the squad that does not want to be there can be damaging for the rest of the group.
With the season starting imminently, this does not leave United a lot of time to recruit a new forward in the event he departs, so Ten Hag might be thinking that he will do all that he can to ensure that Ronaldo stays and gets on board with his plan.
