According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United has been in contact with the agent of Benjamin Sesko but faces a challenge in signing the striker as Red Bull Salzburg does not want to sell.

After completing the signings of Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez, it appears the Red Devils have turned their attention to bolstering their striking options – as star Cristiano Ronaldo has declared his desire to leave the club this summer – with Red Bull Salzburg starlet, Sesko.

In the latest development of the deal, Romano has revealed the Premier League giant has been in contact with the agents of the 19-year-old, but his club are not looking to move him on this summer but could do in 2023.

Romano said, “I told you that the interest of Manchester United in Benjamin Sesko, this talented striker from Red Bull Salzburg, is concrete. Manchester United had direct contacts with his agents, he’s a player appreciated by Man United, he’s one of the players they are considering in the list, and they had some contacts.

“The problem on Sesko’s side is that the answer of Red Bull Salzburg has always been very clear with many clubs approaching Salzburg, because it’s not only Man United.

“For example, Newcastle and many others asking for information and the answer from Salzburg side was, we want to sell Sesko next summer in 2023 – not this summer.

“So, Man United will need a really important bid if they want to sign Sesko immediately, because the plan of Red Bull Salzburg was to keep the player for one more season and sell him next summer. So, not an easy one, but Sesko is still a player that Man United are considering and we have to see what happens in August.”

TIF Thoughts on Sesko to United…

While Sesko could be seen as a raw product at the young of 19, he shone last season for Salzburg, netting 10 goals and picking up seven assists in all competitions while so far this season he has played just two games and picked up two goals and one assist.

However, as Romano states, it will be hard to bring the player in this summer as Salzburg do not want to sell after already losing the likes of Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen, and Karim Adeyemi this summer.

This seems like a deal that could come down to the end of the window and if United are desperate by then, it would not be surprising to see them pay over the odds just to bring him in. Keep your eyes on this one.
