YouTuber Conor McGilligan has urged Leeds United to go in for Ollie Watkins this summer as they hunt for a new forward.

According to Sky Sports, Leeds previously showed interest in signing Watkins when the Whites last gained promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds have been on the hunt for a new forward since the start of the summer transfer window, with two main targets being Charles De Ketelaere and Arnaud Kalimuendo. However, the Belgian opted to join Milan and the French attacker is reportedly set to sign for Rennes.

Watkins was a mainstay in the Aston Villa side last season as he featured 35 times in the Premier League and was his side’s top scorer, after finding the back of the net 11 times, but he did not start in Saturday’s opening game on the season against newly promoted Bournemouth.

And amid claims that Villa are willing to sell the former Brentford ace this summer, McGilligan took to Twitter to voice his opinion about the English striker, saying: “Watkins is 100% one to go for.”

TIF Thoughts on McGilligan’s comments…

Watkins, who has been hailed as a ‘top player’, could be a good option for Leeds because he would provide healthy competition for Patrick Bamford for a place in the starting XI and has proven that he is capable of scoring goals in the Premier League if given the opportunity.

The English forward might also be keen to force a move away from Villa Park after not starting on Saturday, and if this is a sign of things to come, this could be a hindrance to his chances of getting a call-up to the World Cup squad in November, as he will likely need to be playing regular football to have a chance of getting on the plane.

Therefore, it could be argued that a move suits all parties.
