Presenter Dave Walker has claimed that Everton have dodged a bullet by not signing Harry Winks in this summer’s transfer window.
Winks was on the radar of Everton earlier in the transfer window, but it was recently reported that the Toffees have cooled their interest for the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder.
The Englishman was seriously out of favour last season for Spurs, making 19 appearances in the Premier League, but just nine of those were from the start, while he has not been named in their opening three matchday squads this season.
With Everton cooling their interest for Winks, Walker spoke on The Transfer Show and claimed that they dodged a bullet by not signing him.
He said: “I think Everton have dodged a bullet with Harry Winks. I don’t really know what they expected Harry to bring to Everton, to be honest, so I don’t know how disappointed they are to lose out on him, but I don’t rate him, that’s for sure.”

TIF Thoughts on Walker’s comments…
With Winks not featuring regularly last season and not being involved at all so far this campaign, Spurs might have been keen to offload him this summer, and potentially get some cash for him, but the list of clubs interested has seemingly fizzled out.
Everton have instead signed Amadou Onana on a five-year deal, and at just 21 years old, he looks like he is a real promising player, after being a mainstay in the LOSC Lille side last term and featured eight times in the Champions League.
It has not been the best start for Everton as they headed into the weekend having lost their two opening fixtures of the season against Chelsea and Aston Villa, so it will be interesting to see if the choice to sign Onana over Winks was the correct one in the upcoming months.
