Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed on The Done Deal Show that Everton’s Anthony Gordon has had his head turned amid speculation over his future.

The talk of Everton right now is certainly about the future of their academy graduate, who has seen two bids lodged for him by Chelsea, while reports are suggesting that a third in the region of £50m is just around the corner.

Gordon has had interest in him all summer from the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur after his breakout season under Rafael Benitez and Frank Lampard, which saw him feature in 35 league games.

However, he may not be featuring in many more at Goodison Park, with Jacobs claiming that the winger has had his head turned by Chelsea’s lucrative offers.

He said: “There’s two weeks or so left of the window, so Everton are quite bullish that they would rather Chelsea just give up, but the player’s head has been turned, and Chelsea haven’t yet walked away. Whether or not they’re prepared to pay £50m remains to be seen.”

TIF Thoughts on interest in Gordon…

It would be a major blow initially for Everton and their fans if Gordon was to depart, as seeing one of their own play at Goodison Park and play such a key role in their first team will have given them a lot of joy and pleasure.

However, the reality is he’s a 21-year-old who has played in 51 Premier League games but only managed to score four goals, so if they were to receive £50m for his services, it could be considered ludicrous to not accept such an offer.

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

That sort of money – as well as the £60m they recouped from Richarlison’s departure – could really help Frank Lampard put a stamp on this Everton side, make it his own and ensure that they aren’t involved in yet another relegation battle.
