Football Daily’s Joe Thomlinson has labelled Everton’s decision to keep Anthony Gordon despite a £60m bid being mooted as ‘absolutely bizarre’.
The Everton youngster has been the subject of interest this summer, and according to reports, there is big-money interest in Gordon.
With Chelsea said to be prepared to pay as much as £60m for Gordon, they must rate him highly and see him as a potential key addition to their side. That being said, however, given the fact that Everton have already lost Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, Gordon’s departure would leave Frank Lampard incredibly short when it comes to attacking options.
And with such little time left in the transfer window, if Everton were to lose Gordon now, they may struggle to find an adequate replacement.
Having his say on the reported Chelsea bid, Thomlinson said on Football Daily’s Sunday Vibes: “I think it’s absolutely bizarre that they haven’t snapped Chelsea’s hand off for that £60m bid. That is an incredible amount of money for Anthony Gordon, who has scored four Premier League goals.
“I think it’s a bizarre bit of business from the Blues, but Everton should’ve snapped their hand off.”

The reported price that Chelsea are willing to pay is certainly surprising. Of course, since Thomlinson’s comments, Gordon has scored another goal, taking his tally to five when it comes to his career total in the Premier League. But even so, we feel any price higher than the £45m already rejected is hard to justify for a player with such little output, even at the age of 21.
From Everton’s perspective, though, they must consider how much they would be losing from their side if they allowed Gordon to leave for any price at all this summer. Recently welcoming Neal Maupay will potentially solve some of their problems in front of goal in the continued absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but they will not want a case of one in, one out before the transfer window closes will so little time to do business.
