Journalist Tony Scott recently shared his concerns over the possible transfer of Ben Brereton Diaz to Everton on the All Together Now podcast.
Everton have been busy in the transfer window, mainly with outgoings as we have seen the likes of Richarlison leave for £60m to their Premier League rivals and starlet, Anthony Gordon, has also recently been linked with a big move away.
They have bought in multiple players including James Tarkowski, Amadou Onana and most recently Neal Maupay.
One striker who could add to the attacking depth is Blackburn Rovers star, Brereton Diaz, who has impressed in the Championship. However, in a recent podcast, Scott aired his grievances about the potential deal.
He said on the All Together Now podcast, “[Ben] Brereton Diaz could be anything. He’s ripped it up in the championship. He come up to the Premier League, he could be left found wanting. He may not score a goal. You just don’t know. It’s a big, big gamble. Big, big gamble that one”. (20:25)
TIF Thoughts on Brereton Diaz to Everton…
Considering their current squad and financial situation, Everton should be concerned with who they bring in, while they desperately need a new body in the attack, they cannot afford to sign another flop.
However, despite having not played in the top flight, it is hard to see how the Chilean striker would flop and not rake in the goal when looking at his recent form in the second division of English football.
Last season he picked up an incredible 22 goals while playing both in the centre-forward role and on the left wing. He grabbed eight goals and four assists on the left wing for Blackburn last season, showing that once Calvert-Lewin comes back he could be an available option to still start in the team.
His contract is also set to expire in the summer of 2023 so there is an opportunity to get him for a discounted price which will also hugely benefit the Toffees. There are always question marks when a player comes into the Premier League, but Everton would be stupid not to sign the 23-year-old.
Should Everton sign Brereton Diaz?
