Journalist Paul Brown has claimed that Everton are ‘ready to pull the trigger’ on a deal to welcome back Paris Saint-Germain midfielder and former Toffee Idrissa Gueye.

The midfielder hasn’t hit the greatest of heights in recent times at the Parc des Princes, which has resulted in a place outside of the current PSG squad at the start of the league season. All in all, having made the move from Everton in 2019 for £19m, Gueye may be left disappointed with how things have turned out.

On Merseyside, he was a key player for Everton, making a total of 108 appearances for the club in a solid spell – racking up nearly 2,000 more minutes in fewer games.

Now, according to Brown, the Toffees are ready to welcome him back, telling GiveMeSport: “Everton are ready to pull the trigger on that. They have a deal agreed with the player. The problem is whether he can negotiate the sort of exit he wants from PSG. That’s been a problem so far and I don’t think anyone knows whether PSG will ultimately agree to let him go under the terms that he’d like to. I think it’s a waiting game there, essentially.”

TIF Thoughts on Brown’s comments…

It’s interesting that Brown isn’t sure whether PSG will let Gueye leave the club, given that the midfielder’s game time has been limited so far this season. On paper, the deal makes complete sense. It doesn’t look as though PSG need the midfielder, and with Everton offering a solution, a deal should suit all parties involved.

Gueye would certainly reinstate some experience in the Everton midfield, with the likes of Alex Iwobi and Amadou Onana occupying the positions as of right now – one of whom is new to the position, while the other is just 21 and new to the Premier League.

There’s still time left in the transfer window for this deal to happen, but Everton will certainly hope to see things speed up.
