Everton’s proposed move for Idrissa Gana Gueye depends on what the player himself would like to do.
That’s according to Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol, who has been rounding up the latest Premier League business.
According to Fabrizio Romano, speaking at the weekend, the Toffees were ‘optimistic’ about their chances of bringing the robust midfielder back to Goodison Park, after his move to Paris Saint-Germain back in 2019.
Having brought Amadou Onana and Conor Coady to the club, the Italian transfer guru claimed that officials at Finch Farm were ‘working’ on a deal for Gueye.
Now, Solhekol has revealed that the move is down to what the 32-year-old would like personally.
As posted on the Sky Sports News YouTube channel, he said: “Deals for Amadou Onana and Conor Coady have been done. Idrissa Gueye still a target – it’s up to the player now.”
TIF Thoughts on Gueye and Everton…
Would you like Everton to sign Gueye?Yes!No! |
Described as a ‘relentless, ubiquitous midfield dynamo’ by The Times’ James Gheerbrant, the Senegal ace would certainly add some class to the Everton engine room.
The former Player of the Year boasts a pass completion rate of 92.7% over the past year, which places him among the top 2% of midfielders across Europe’s top five leagues.
Likened to Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes and Mateo Kovacic for his style of play (as per FBref), the 94-cap international would bring invaluable quality to the Everton midfield and experience in the Champions League that is unbeknown to almost all of the current squad, so you would expect Frank Lampard will be hoping this is a deal the Toffees can get over the line.
