Everton are now optimistic about bringing Idrissa Gueye back to Goodison Park in the coming days as Frank Lampard looks to bolster his squad.
This is according to Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking on his latest Here We Go podcast to discuss the Toffees’ plans for the remaining weeks of this summer’s window.
Everton endured a difficult season opener on Saturday against Chelsea, with a narrow 1-0 defeat being added to by the serious injury to Ben Godfrey in the first half.
But it appears Lampard could be set to welcome three new faces to Goodison, with Amadou Onana and Conor Coady expected to put pen to paper and make the move to Merseyside.
And Romano also believes another addition could be in the offing, as former midfielder Gueye could be returning after moving to Paris Saint-Germain back in 2019.
Discussing the latest transfer updates at Everton, he said: “There is an agreement, loan with an option for Conor Coady, who will be the new centre-back of Everton.
“Onana – just a matter of time to announce the new signing from Lille, it’s agreed €36m (£30.4m) plus €4m (£3.4m) in add-ons and a 20% sell-on clause. For Gana Gueye, Everton are still optimistic; working on it.”
TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…
Given the season Everton had last season, we think the fans would welcome any support they can get when it comes to solidifying their midfield.
Are you pleased by these potential Everton signings?
Over the course of the 2021/22 Premier League season, Lampard’s side conceded 66 goals, which was certainly a big reason why they flirted with relegation.
However, with the additions of James Tarkowski – and potentially Coady, Onana and Gueye – we think Lampard and the fans will be hoping the Toffees can prove to be a more rigid outfit and keep their goals-conceded tally down compared to the previous campaign.
