Everton could replace linked-away attacker Anthony Gordon with Netherlands winger Cody Gakpo this summer.

That is according to journalist Simon Phillips, who was speaking to GIVEMESPORT about the Toffees’ potential transfer business, heading into the final week of the window.

According to the Daily Mail, Everton have joined Manchester United among other sides in sharing an interest in signing Gakpo this summer.

The same report states that the 23-year-old, who has been described as a player who “has everything” by former Netherlands midfielder Theo Janssen, would cost a buying club around £38m for his services this season.

Meanwhile, it looks as though academy product Gordon could leave the club this summer, with The Athletic reporting that he has told manager Frank Lampard he would like to join Chelsea and play Champions League football this season, with the west London club prepared to pay up to £60m for the wide man according to Sky Sports.

And Phillips believes that there is definite interest from Lampard’s side in Gakpo, and he could end up acting as a replacement should Gordon depart the club this season.

“There’s interest in Cody Gakpo, that’s one name given to me that they could turn to, to replace Gordon,” Phillips told GIVEMESPORT.

TIF Thoughts on Phillips’ comments

We believe that Everton fans will accept the departure of Gordon for around £60m, if they can get Gakpo, who has been hailed as an ‘enormous talent’, in as a replacement seamlessly.

The seven-time Netherlands international enjoyed an exceptional campaign for PSV last season, scoring 21 goals and providing 15 assists in 47 appearances according to Transfermarkt.

Therefore, we believe that if Gakpo could transfer that form from the Eredivisie to the Premier League, the winger would prove to be an incredibly astute piece of business as a replacement for Gordon.
