Leeds United had shown signs as recently as Sunday night that they were going to bid for RB Salzburg’s Mohamed Camara.

This is what journalist Ryan Taylor has suggested on his latest YouTube video as he discussed Leeds’ latest transfer news coming out of Yorkshire.

The Whites have been heavily linked with a potential swoop for the Mali midfielder this summer with Victor Orta believed to be an admirer of the Salzburg man.

However, it now seems as if the Yorkshire club have focused in on their interest in Tyler Adams with the American midfielder now set to sign his contract to become a Leeds player.

But Taylor backed up the reported interest in Camara but he believes the Austrian side of the deal have been trying to up the price for the 22-year-old:

(13:20) “So the Austrian sources that I’m speaking to in regards to Camara, even as recently as Sunday night, were adamant that Leeds had kind of signalled they were prepared to bid for Camara.

“My kind of reading into this is that I think it’s just the Austrian side of things trying to drive up interest in Camara trying to encourage that bidding war between Brighton and Leeds.”

“They’ve held conversations with [Salzburg] as well, but they’ve not followed up that interest. But once that Raphinha money is there alongside the Kalvin Phillips fee, you know, you’d like to think that there would be leverage to do a deal if they want to.”

TIF Thoughts on Taylor’s comments…

It will be interesting to see how Leeds approaches the remainder of the transfer window when Raphinha’s future is finally decided with a potential £60m coming in through his possible departure.

Do Leeds need more midfielders this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Midfield was a big issue for the Whites last season with injuries to the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Adam Forshaw and Jamie Shackleton so there is certainly reasoning to add a number of new faces.

However, having already added Marc Roca and Adams now set to sign, we do question whether the money Salzburg may demand for Camara could be spent better elsewhere?

Patrick Bamford’s injury-stricken 2021/22 campaign could signal the need for a new striker – or sufficient back-up, at least – and we think the Camara fee could possibly be spent better on addressing this area.
