Journalist Alex Crook has claimed that Southampton have a decent amount of money to spend this summer on a striker.

Premier League side Southampton have signed four players so far this summer transfer window, Gavin Bazunu, Romeo Lavia, Armel Bella-Kotchap, and Mateusz Lis, for a combined total of £32.67 million, with the latter coming in the door on a free transfer.

Armando Broja spent last season on loan with Southampton, and he scored nine goals in 38 games in all competitions, so Ralph Hasenhuttl might be keen to bring in a striker to replace him, as it does not look like he will be returning to St Mary’s for next season.

Despite already signing four players this summer, Crook claimed on talkSPORT that the Southampton fans should be excited because the club has a big sum of money to spend on a striker.

“I was told yesterday because they’ve strengthened in the goalkeeping department – they got Gavin Bazunu in – they’ve strengthened defensively, they’ve signed Romeo Lavia, a midfielder from Manchester City as well and now Joe Aribo.”

“They’ve got a decent sum of money to spend on a centre-forward, so I think Southampton fans can be quite excited about what they have done this summer, they have certainly backed Ralph Hasenhuttl, and have been one of the busier clubs in the market,” Crook said.

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

Southampton had a disappointing end to last season which meant that they finished just five points above the drop zone, so Hasenhuttl has seen this and not wasted any time on getting new talent in the door, and with Armando Broja also returning to his parent club Chelsea, he might opt to bring in another striker before the window closes.

Adam Armstrong signed for the Saints at the start of last season from Blackburn, after he scored an impressive 28 league goals in the season prior in 40 Championship games. But he has failed to carry on this form for the Saints, after finding the net just twice in 23 Premier League games last term for his new side.
