Sky Sports transfer expert Dharmesh Sheth has confirmed on the Transfer Talk podcast that West Ham have offered to sign Jesse Lingard with David Moyes’ blessing.

Having spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan in east London the Hammers tried twice to sign the Manchester United player permanently in the most recent campaign.

Their efforts to sign the 29-year-old last summer were rebuffed and they attempted in January once more to bring in the attacker only for the advances to be rejected again.

However, the £16.2m-rated attacker will officially become a free agent on Friday, July 1st. Sheth has reiterated that the Irons have already approached the player with the manager thought to be very keen on bringing him in permanently.

West Ham United fans, who were these players sold to? Starting with Felipe Anderson

The former 32-cap England international enjoyed a career renaissance at the London Stadium between January and May 2021 scoring nine times and creating a further five goals in 16 scintillating appearances for the club.

With the World Cup just around the corner it would be an opportune time to rekindle that form and although it looked like Rob Newman and his recruitment team would face competition it seems like they are leading the chase.

Speaking on the Talking Transfers podcast (30:26), 90min reporter and West Ham fan Toby Cudworth revealed that Newcastle United had backed away from a move and that the proposed interest from elsewhere may be unfounded due to the finances involved leaving them with a clear run at the Englishman but it remains to be seen what he decides to do.
