Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that West Ham United’s summer interest in Luke Thomas is genuine – but the price tag remains an issue.
According to The Guardian, West Ham have shown interest in Thomas this summer, as they seek competition for Aaron Cresswell, so David Moyes is looking to strengthen that area of the pitch.
Thomas featured 33 times in all competitions last season for Leicester City, which included 22 appearances in the Premier League, and is thought to be available should a suitable offer arrive for him.
With the Hammers showing interest in Thomas, Jacobs spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that it is unclear as to whether they will be willing to meet Leicester’s asking price – but the interest is certainly there.
He said: “The West Ham interest is real, but the price tag is a challenge and I think that Leicester would hold out for at least £20m or a little bit more.
“It remains to be seen whether West Ham would pay that, so that’s one to watch.”

Thomas – hailed ‘magnificent‘ by former Foxes player Iwan Roberts – is just 21 years old and still has two years remaining on his current contract, so if West Ham want to sign him this summer, they will most likely have to pay a significant fee for him, which they might not be willing to do, having already spent over £80m in this window.
The Hammers finished seventh last season in the Premier League, so to compete for a more successful campaign next term, Moyes might want to strengthen in areas that they are weak, he has already resolved the lack of striker issue by bringing in Gianluca Scamacca, while Thomas could bolster their squad at left-back, so it will be interesting to see if they pursue him.
