Insider ExWHUemployee has said that he wouldn’t be surprised if the agents for transfer target Santiago Ascacibar have been in touch with West Ham United.

Throughout the summer, the Hammers have been linked with a number of new midfielders, with someone like James Ward-Prowse viewed as a possible Mark Noble replacement.

However, it seems as though a new option could soon present itself to West Ham in the form of a central midfielder from Argentina. Indeed, Ex has stated that the Hertha Berlin man is available for around £10m and could be in contact with the club.

While writing on The West Ham Way Patreon page, the transfer insider said: ‘The club is still looking for another central midfielder and there have been rumours of a move for Santiago Ascacibar, an Argentine midfield who plays for Hertha Berlin in Germany.

“The international is a player who we have admired for a long time and someone who I reported interest in about 3 years ago. It wouldn’t surprise me if agents have been in touch with the club and he is said to be available for around £10m.”

TIF thoughts on Santiago Ascacibar and West Ham…

It’s interesting to hear that West Ham have supposedly been keeping tabs on the player for about three years now, and with David Moyes and co seemingly on the hunt for a midfielder it’s easy to see why Ex believes there could be something going on.

During that period, Ascacibar has been playing in the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin and Stuttgart before that. The 25-year-old seems to be a consistent player in the middle of the park, and averaged a SofaScore player rating of 6.82 in the league last term.

With other Iron’s midfielder Tomas Soucek also linked with a possible summer exit, Ascacibar’s agents may well be wise to position their player close to the Premier League club ahead of a potential deal.

Taking it all into account, that name certainly looks like one to keep an eye out for over the coming weeks.
