Journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are ‘hopeful’ they will sign Djed Spence unless a ‘major disaster’ ruins the transfer.

Throughout the summer, the right wing-back has seemingly been courted by Spurs, and it now looks as though a deal will get across the line in the coming days.

Indeed, while speaking on his YouTube channel, Gold explained that both Tottenham and Middlesbrough – as well as the player – are now all ‘hopeful’ that the transfer does happen in the near future.

This update even left the journalist wondering if Spence would fly out to meet up with the senior side while on the upcoming pre-season tour of South Korea.

The journalist explained (07:27): “Within Spurs, they are still hopeful that Djed Spence will be coming through those doors. There’s no real expectation that it’ll be in in time for Korea, or certainly before they travel to Korea. I don’t know whether they’d fly him out there or not.”

He continued: “They have flown out players on to tours before. So it’s not a definite no. But you’d think it would probably make more sense for him to get himself ready and be there for when they all arrive back on Sunday.

“But look, that’s being a bit presumptuous. That’s getting slightly ahead of myself. Like I say, from what I understand, Spurs are still hopeful that it could be a deal that gets done.

Will Djed Spence sign for Spurs in time to play a part in the South Korea tour?

Yes

Yes

No

No

“Middlesbrough are hopeful it’s a deal that gets done. Spence wants it to get done, wants to come to Tottenham, from what we understand.

“So when you’ve got all three parties kind of expecting or hopefully it’s going to happen, unless there’s a major disaster and they really just cannot come to any agreement and another club comes in, you’d think it’s a deal that will happen.”

TIF thoughts on Djed Spence and Spurs…

It’s no shock to hear Spurs and Spence are keen to get a deal done as soon as possible, but some might be a little surprised to hear that Middlesbrough are ‘hopeful’ about selling their player.

But with the Championship outfit supposedly looking for a fee in the region of £20m, it’s not so hard to understand why they might be striving for a big payout and soon.

If the two clubs can agree upon a price, it certainly does seem as though this deal will be finalised swiftly. However, it remains to be seen as to whether or not that can happen in time for Spence to fly out to South Korea.

Barring a ‘major disaster’, though, Spence will be playing Premier League football for Antonio Conte and co next season.
