Journalist Alasdair Gold has explained that Tottenham Hotspur will be able to spend the total £150m invested in them by ENIC in the current transfer market.

As reported by The Athletic, Spurs’ majority shareholder invested a significant money of money into the club ahead of the summer window.

This finance would arrive without any additional interest to the Premier League club, and Antonio Conte has already seen that cash fund pricey deals for the likes of Richarlison and Yves Bissouma (via Transfermarkt).

In more good news, while some fans may have feared the £150m would have to be spread across deal made in the January transfer market too, Gold has revealed that it can all be used now should Tottenham need it.

When talking about the topic on his YouTube channel, Gold was asked: “Do you think the £150m will also have to cover the January transfer window?”

He then replied: “I’d imagine not. I’m pretty sure I was told at the beginning, that the bulk of it would be used for transfers this summer.

“It certainly has to be withdrawn by the end of this year for ENIC to get their ownership percentage rise.

“So yeah, I mean, you could argue that technically you could withdraw the money and use it in January. But like I said, from everything I’m hearing, or I was told at the time certainly when it all happened, the idea was the bulk would be used for the summer transfer window – which is good news.”

TIF Thoughts on ENIC and Spurs…

Gold alludes to an ‘ownership percentage rise’ for ENIC that will only happen if that money is withdrawn by the end of the year. Indeed, their shareholding could increase from 85.6% to around 87.5% (via Bloomberg).

And so, with the next transfer window not opening until 1st January 2023, it would make sense for Spurs to receive all that money this summer to fund their current plans.

According to Transfermarkt, the north London outfit have already spent £78.48m this summer – but have received £34.43m from the sales of Steven Bergwijn and Cameron Carter-Vickers – so there should be plenty left in the transfer kitty.

All in all, it could make for an exciting end to the window for Tottenham fans.
