Journalist Luke Edwards has urged Newcastle United to get moving and sign two attacking players before end of the transfer window.

Up to this point in the summer, the Magpies have strengthened their squad by signing the likes of Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Matt Targett (via Transfermarkt).

However, all of those arrivals play in defensive positions, but Edwards has claimed that despite their failure to add to their frontline this summer, Newcastle recognise their need to add more depth in the attacking department.

Indeed, the journalist took to Twitter to claim that this was viewed as a ‘main problem’ to address in the window and the club must now ‘start cranking things up’ to get a couple of signings made soon.

After explaining that he wasn’t surprised things had died down after the signing of Botman, he wrote: “Having said all this, NUFC will have to start cranking things up again now.

“They are well aware they probably need two attacking players before close of window and ideally before start of the season.

“The main problem to address this summer was offence. Howe said that himself.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle and their transfers…

It’s not as if the club are short on rumours connecting them with possible new signings for their attack. Indeed, Anthony Gordon, Moussa Diaby and Armando Broja have all been linked with possible summer moves.

However, none of those deals have got across the line yet. On top of that, a deal relating to long-term target Hugo Ekitike no longer seems to be on the cards.

With that in mind, it does feel as if there is plenty of work to do for Newcastle yet – especially as they supposedly need to sign not just one forward, but two.

With that in mind, it’s no wonder Edwards has begun to call for urgency from the Premier League outfit.
