Leeds United: Marshment not convinced by move for PSG outcast Layvin Kurzawa

Journalist James Marshment has admitted that he isn’t thrilled by the possibility of Leeds United signing Layvin Kurzawa.

An injury to Junior Firpo which could rule him out for up to eight weeks threw a spanner in the works as Leeds prepare for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

The Whites have been busy this summer making six signings but now they may have to swoop to bring in cover at left-back while Firpo recovers.

Speaking in a recent press conference manager Jesse Marsch said that he would look at ‘other solutions’ within the squad but hinted that they may look to the market to solve their problems.

French outlet Media Foot reported that PSG have offered Kurzawa to the Yorkshire club as a means to rectify the issue but Marshment isn’t convinced by the idea of bringing in the four-time Ligue 1 winner.

Speaking on the JustJoe Football Show he said:

(37:51)”I think we’d be potentially signing or gambling on a really rusty player who could potentially end up being another Firpo.

“I mean, I could be desperately wrong but it’s a bit of an underwhelming one for me, I’d not be overjoyed if you told me we’d struck a deal for him.

It is not someone I see as a big upgrade on Firpo, which is saying something.”

TIF Thoughts on Kurzawa and Leeds…

Would Kurzawa be a good signing for Leeds?

Kurzawa, who will turn 30 in September, is a 13-time France international but he has found himself an outcast at the Parc des Princes.

He played just nine minutes for the Parisians last season which came in the French equivalent to the Community Shield last August and only made the bench on seven further occasions.

Nuno Mendes was brought in by PSG initially on loan last summer which severely restricted Kurzawa’s game time and Leeds could capitalise on the situation.

It would be more of a stop-gap option however and considering his £89k-per-week pay packet it could also derail the possibility of a loan deal and there  may be better options out there.
