Transfer insider Dean Jones believes that Leeds United will now look to sign a left-back.

The Whites were dealt a blow in their preparations for the upcoming campaign when their only senior option in that area Junior Firpo sustained an injury that has ruled him out for up to eight weeks.

Speaking on the matter in a recent press conference manager Jesse Marsch says he is now looking very closely at Leif Davis while Pascal Struijk and Jack Harrison are seen as ‘other solutions’.

However, the American also hinted that the club may look to the transfer market to deal with the issue as he praised the work that Victor Orta and Gaby Ruiz have already done this summer.

Jones feels as if the problem is ‘definitely’ a concern for Marsch and the latest setback

could make the 48-year-old to act if the ‘right opportunity’ arose.

He told GIVEMESPORT:

“It’s definitely playing on Jesse Marsch’s mind at the moment.

“It’s not something he thought he was going to have to address, but the way that he’s been talking recently seems like if the right opportunity cropped up, he would go now and sign a new left-back.”

Do Leeds need another left-back?

The Yorkshire club have already been busy recruiting this off-season with six new players arriving but this unwanted issue does need addressing and may force their hand once again.

Stoke City full-back Josh Tymon has been a name linked with a move to Elland Road having played a part in seven goals in all competitions last season.

Meanwhile, Leeds Live have suggested that Firpo’s injury could see those at Thorp Arch revive their interest in Sergio Gomez of Anderlecht and Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico.

While Marsch may decide against bringing in a replacement with the 25-year-old due back in September it should be noted that Firpo does have a history of niggling issues and perhaps that may increase the club’s desire.
