Dean Jones has dropped an interesting claim on Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Youri Tielemans on The Done Deal Show.

It’s safe to say that Tottenham have well and truly smashed it this transfer window bringing in six new faces, with at least five of them looking like players who could go almost immediately into the starting lineup or at least compete closely for a spot, Fraser Forster the only exemption.

However, despite this and Antonio Conte reportedly very happy with what he’s been given and now got to work with at Spurs, they do seem to be standing still as links to Leicester City duo James Maddison and Tielemans are still rife.

According to Jones, earlier in the summer, Tielemans was right at the top of Spurs’ shopping list, although nothing has ever materialised, which is something he discussed.

Would Tielemans be a starter for Spurs?

No!

(26:10) “He would have chosen Tottenham over Arsenal just because Tottenham have got Champions League football and I remember getting the text back end of last season when Tottenham were on the verge of qualifying for the Champions League.

“It was like, if Tottenham do get fourth spot Tielemans is right at the top of their list and it just hasn’t come through for whatever reason.”

TIF Thoughts on Spurs’ interest in Tielemans…

It’s bizarre that Spurs have not firmed up their interest in Tielemans if it’s true that he would’ve chosen them as his preferred destination because even with the signing of Yves Bissouma, Tielemans would only reportedly cost them £25 million, so they wouldn’t necessarily need to break the bank.

How well do you know where these Spurs signings came from? Take our quiz to find out! Firstly, where did Dimitar Berbatov arrive from?

However, Spurs did also sign Rodrigo Bentancur last January and will have academy graduate Oliver Skipp back fully fit this season, so the midfield department is already bloated out so Spurs may have thought best to leave Tielemans alone as he would have likely demanded a regular spot in the first team, something Conte might not have been able to guarantee.
