Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that it might be difficult for Tottenham Hotspur to sign Rodrigo de Paul in this summer’s transfer window.

According to Giacomo IacobellisTottenham have been in contact with the representatives of Rodrigo de Paul over a potential transfer to the club this summer but at the moment he is keen to stay at Atletico Madrid.

De Paul, who has been hailed as a ‘top player’, signed for Atletico at the start of last season from Udinese, and he was a mainstay for the Spanish side last term, after he made 48 appearances in all competitions, including nine games in the Champions League.

Despite Spurs showing interest in De Paul this summer, Jones spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that it will be a difficult transfer for the North London club to get over the line because he is happy where he is.

“In terms of Rodrigo de Paul, I don’t know if he’s got enough appetite to push for a transfer like this. I spoke to a contact in Madrid and he said he seems pretty happy to stay where he is for right now. So I think that’ll also be a difficult get for Spurs,” Jones said.

TIF Thoughts on Jones’s comments…

Spurs have managed to sign six new players this summer, including Yves Bissouma from Brighton & Hove Albion, who occupies the same role as De Paul, and with Conte already having Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as central midfield options, he might not be looking to add another playing in this position.

Atletico only signed De Paul 12 months ago, on a four-year contract, so if a club was to come in for him, then it would have to be a particularly appealing offer for the player and a significant sum of money to the club, which Conte might not be willing to do, especially as he has already spent just under £92 million this summer.
