Leeds United are now set to reward their young winger Crysencio Summerville with a new and improved deal.

This is according to the reliable Leeds correspondent Phil Hay, who has been discussing the latest transfer news at Elland Road on his podcast for The Athletic.

The Dutch winger was able to earn six appearances in the Premier League with 125 minutes of action under his belt in the English top flight.

However, the 20-year-old has only one year remaining on his current deal at Elland Road amid previous reports suggesting he’d like to leave on loan.

With Marcelo Bielsa at the helm, it was reported the Dutchman wanted to leave the Yorkshire club in January on loan, but just months on, it seems he may be awarded an extended deal.

Hay said: “They’re speaking to Summerville about a new contract. I think [Joe] Gelhardt will get one as well before the season starts or before the end of the window.

“Summerville pretty keen to go on loan, I think. At the moment, I don’t think Leeds have indicated that that’s likely to happen, but that’ll all be part of the discussion.”

TIF Thoughts on Hay’s comments…

Leeds are reportedly looking to bring in some new faces this summer, with Raphinha expected to depart in the coming weeks as clubs circle.

Is Summerville ready for regular PL football?

Despite the potential vacancy on the wing through the Brazilian’s imminent departure, it will be interesting to see whether this possible new deal will see Summerville leave on a season-long loan.

If the 20-year-old is not going to play regularly under Jesse Marsch, we feel it would be hugely beneficial for him to leave on loan and pick up some first-team football elsewhere.
