Terry Gibson who offers his opinions and covers Spanish Football at Sky has told the Transfer Talk podcast that Leeds United fans will be happy with what they see from Marc Roca next season.

Gibson is familiar with the Spaniard from his time at Espanyol where he made 121 senior appearances before sealing a ‘dream’ £14m switch to Bayern Munich in 2020.

However, it didn’t work out in Bavaria for the 25-year-old and Leeds decided to offer him a way out of Germany paying a reported initial fee of £10m, after agreeing terms on a four-year contract.

Guillem Balague told YEP (via Yorkshire Evening Post) that “Roca is a variation of Rodri, but the Rodri that first arrived to the Premier League” which makes for good reading for Leeds fans as the Manchester City man has emerged as one of the league’s best midfielders and Gibson also believes he will leave a lasting impression in Yorkshire.

(14:01) “You know what he’s a player I really do like.

“I’m not going to make comparisons to Kalvin Phillips but in terms of quality he could be a real asset to Leeds United in the Premier League next season.

“You know they’re losing Philips but I think they’ll enjoy watching Marc Roca as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Roca and Leeds…

The cultured left-footer spent two seasons in Munich but only managed to make 24 appearances across all competitions.

Nonetheless, he is a former Euro U21 Championship winner with Spain scoring in the semi-final victory before playing the full 90 minutes in the showpiece having sat on the bench for the first two group games.

Opta editor Jamie Kemp told the Yorkshire Evening Post that his best football in Spain while playing as the deepest of three midfielders and he was their ‘main outlet for controlling possession and helping to build spells of play’.

However, as pointed out by Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross he won’t be the only man that has to fill the void left by the seemingly outbound Kalvin Phillips with the reporter claiming that he has been brought in to add depth while Phillips and Raphinha will be directly replaced if needed – hence the links to enforcer Mohamed Camara.
