Journalist Fabrizio Romano has urged Arsenal to go out and sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in the transfer market.

The Lazio man has been linked with a move to the Premier League club this summer by Italian media but as of yet, nothing concrete has emerged.

While speaking about the rumours on the Qué Golazo! podcast, Romano was able to confirm that no deal was particularly close, with Lazio president Claudio Lotito only ready to accept major offers for the player.

However, despite this all, Romano urges the likes of Mikel Arteta and Edu to go out and sign the ‘fantastic’ player who he feels is ‘underrated’.

The journalist said: “At the moment, Lazio have received nothing for Milinkovic-Savic. So I know Lazio so well because here in Italy we know how they work on the market and the president Claudio Lotito is really strong in negotiations when it’s about his top players.

“And he said a few weeks ago that he would only sell Milinkovic-Savic in case one of the best clubs in the world will put one of the best proposals for Milinkovic, and from what I’m told they want around €65-70m.

Should Arsenal spend big on Sergej Milinkovic-Savic?

“So it’s really big money, it’s a completely different price than compared to [Youri] Tielemans, who could be around £35m. For Milinkovic, it is €70m. So it’s completely, completely different. And I think it’s not going to be an easy one – not just for Arsenal, but for many clubs. So at the moment, it is still quiet around Milinkovic.

“Let me say, my personal opinion, I hope Arsenal will be on it, or any other English club. Because he’s a fantastic player, really underrated in Serie A.

“He’s always making the difference. And so I’m sure that he will be absolutely ready to do great things in the Champions League and in the Premier League, too.”

TIF Thoughts on Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Arsenal…

Having won multiple trophies during his time with Italy, it’s not hard to see why there are people out there who rate the Lazio ace. And considering he provided 11 goals and 12 assists in total last season, his high price tag is also understandable.

However, after this ringing endorsement from Romano, those at Arsenal may well feel as though Milinkovic-Savic is a player worth splashing the cash out for.

Even so, as is made clear in the quotes above, no deal seems particularly close as of yet. But it will certainly be interesting to see if the Gunners, or any other major club, heed Romano’s advice and make a move for the ‘underrated’ player.
