Leeds United could make the potential signing of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The insider was speaking on the Que Golazo YouTube channel amid recent reports over the future of Raphinha at the Yorkshire club.

It is believed Arsenal and a number of other Premier League clubs are now pushing to sign Raphinha with Barcelona unlikely to be able to put forward an attractive proposal.

And with the expected need to replace the 25-year-old, Romano believes the Dutch winger is an option for Victor Orta this summer.

However, the Italian journalist does not believe Gakpo, who ‘has everything’ according to Ryan Taylor, is the top target for the Yorkshire club with the 23-year-old slightly further down on Leeds’ wish list:

“Gakpo is a possibility. Gakpo is a possibility. It’s one of the names that they have in the list. I’m told it’s not top of the list at the moment for Leeds. But it’s one of the names, one of the possibilities, but now for them, as they always do, they want to find a solution for Raphinha.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

The 2021/22 campaign was certainly an impressive outing for Gakpo in Eredivisie as he recorded 12 goals and 13 assists in his 27 league appearances (via Transfermarkt).

Would Gakpo be a good Raphinha replacement?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Raphinha would leave an obvious hole up top for the Whites if he is to make the move this summer and there will be a lot of reliance on his replacement – if it is Gakpo – to adapt to the Premier League.

The Whites have already seen Brenden Aaronson arrive this summer and with clear targets in the foreign market, we think it is essential Leeds get their business done early so they have a full pre-season under Marsch to adapt.
