A Celtic State of Mind podcaster Colin Watt has hailed possible new signing Alexandro Bernabei as a ‘standout’ player and could possibly end up leaving the club in the future for the English Premier League

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou shone in last summer’s transfer window, bringing in the likes of Reo Hatate, Joe Hart, Kyogo Furuhashi, Liel Abada and Matt O’Riley. It looks like their good business is not going to stop anytime soon, as the team are now linked with Bernabei from Argentinian side Lanus.

The 21-year-old is rumoured to be joining the Hoops on a five-year contract in a deal worth around £4m. Watt expressed his excitement over the claims, stating this could be another great deal for the side and that Bernabei could end up playing for a Premier League team in the future.

He said on A Celtic State of Mind podcast: “Alexandro Bernabei, he is the next one we believe is going to be coming in. He’s travelling from Lanus in Argentina, making his way to Scotland right now. From the clips that I’ve seen all of them, and from the intel that we’re receiving to get from Argentina, this looks as if this could be another one where we’ve got someone at a very good price.

“That could go on to be that sort of guy that stands out, could be another one that and maybe a year or two’s time we’re saying, he’s ready to make that big move down south and it could be for big money.”

Interesting first question, how many Celtic fans were inside Ibrox?

TIF Thoughts on Bernabei to Celtic…

Postecoglou has done brilliantly to bring in players from obscure leagues that a lot of teams do not look at, including the PKO Ekstraklasa in Poland, the Ligat Ha’al in Isreal, and the J1 League in Japan, and has now set his sights on the Liga Profesional in Argentina.

While fairly unknown, Bernabei played well last season in a limited amount of games, playing 13 times for Lanus, racking up one goal and two assists in all competitions while averaging four tackles, two dribbles, one shot, one key pass, two crosses and two long balls per game on 70.3% passing accuracy. No one knows if Bernabei is going to light the SPL up next season, but he has the time to adapt and improve at only 21 years old and for the price of around £4 million, Celtic are not forking out a huge fee to bring him in and therefore will not lose out if he does not improve.
