Journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke has stated that he is ‘really looking forward’ to seeing how potential new West Ham United signing Nayef Aguerd does in the Premier League.
The Guardian recently revealed that the Hammers are closing in on a deal for the Rennes defender after offering €35m (£29.8m). The article explained that David Moyes wants to sign a left-sided centre-back and there is ‘growing confidence’ a deal will happen.
In response to the transfer development, Pitt-Brooke – who covers Tottenham Hotspur for The Athletic – outlined his excitement about the deal as he had been told that every club should be after Aguerd.
He wrote on Twitter: “I was told recently that this guy was the best value left-sided centre back in Europe and that every club should be after him. Really looking forward to seeing how he does.”

TIF Thoughts on Nayef Aguerd and West Ham…
According to a report in Yahoo Sport, Aguerd is known for his ‘dominant aerial presence, ability to read the game and sharp recovery speed’. Perhaps it is those traits that have Pitt-Brooke excited to see the player adapt to Premier League life next season if he does sign with West Ham.
Incidentally, he does have experience coming up against Spurs. Indeed, he played the full 90 minutes in a 2-2 draw in the Europa Conference League in the most recent season. Meanwhile, he has also come up against other English opposition in recent times, getting 7.0 and 7.3 SofaScore match ratings after facing Leicester City in the same competition.
If Aguerd does arrive in England this summer, it certainly looks as though he’ll come with high expectations. The Hammers may well have a bargain on their hands if he can prove his quality.
