Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United are not going to try and sign Argentinian forward Valentin Castellanos.

With the summer transfer market soon upon us, the rumour mill is starting to churn out a fair few stories that will have fans pretty excited. For instance, West Ham supporters may have been looking forward to a possible move for the New York City FC attacker, as reported by The Mirror.

However, according to Ex, a transfer will not be happening as David Moyes is not convinced of the player’s quality, and so Castellanos is ‘at best’ an alternative option if other attempted signings fall through.

Should West Ham be in for Taty Castellanos this summer?

Writing on The West Ham Way Patreon page, the presenter said: “As we promised on Twitter, we have researched whether a move for Argentine forward Taty Castellanos of New York City FC is true.

“Unfortunately, we can confirm that the manger doesn’t think he has proven himself at a high enough level having only really scored goals in MLS.

“The MLS standard is considered very low by the club and not a fair judge of whether the player can play in Europe, let alone the Premier league.

“Despite being identified as a possible option by Rob Newman, the move now seems unlikely to happen and is far from a done deal as reported. He is at best a backup target if other options fail, it seems.”

TIF Thoughts on Castellanos and West Ham…

Castellanos has been in pretty fine form this season – with 16 direct goal contributions in 17 outings this season across all competitions – so it’s little wonder he has caught the eye.

Indeed, it is interesting to hear Ex state that even though the deal isn’t likely to happen, the player was ‘identified’ by West Ham as a possible signing.

In the end, it sounds as though David Moyes is not convinced by the quality of Major League Soccer. But at 23 years of age, Castellanos could develop further. It might not be with the Hammers, if this report is accurate, but he could end up in Europe yet.

For now, though, it looks like the Irons will take their business elsewhere.
