Sky Sports presenter Joe Thomlinson has pleaded with the West Ham United board on the Football Daily YouTube channel to sign a striker this summer.
West Ham and David Moyes seemingly took a major risk last season by opting to rely on Michail Antonio to lead the line successfully for them on four fronts – something he managed to do by not picking up an injury through the entire campaign.
However, judging by his recent injury record, this may be a rare occurrence, and after a late attempt to sign Darwin Nunez in January, it seems like Moyes and the West Ham board are realising that a new striker should now very much be on their summer agenda.
Thomlinson urged the Hammers to hand Antonio some support and bring in a new striker this transfer window.
Do West Ham need to sign a new striker?
Yes!
No!
He said: “I think he [Antonio] is perfectly serviceable for West Ham, but it’s like, please give him some support! He can’t play every minute of every game.”
TIF Thoughts on West Ham’s striker search…
As mentioned above, the Hammers did look to bring in new Liverpool striker Nunez in January only for that bid to fall on deaf ears, but there hasn’t been much talk this summer about a new striker arriving. Instead, the focus has seemingly been on new defender Nayef Aguerd.
While Thomlinson has claimed that Antonio is serviceable for the Hammers, he only managed to net 10 goals in the league last season, with six of them coming inside the first eight games of the campaign, and with the forward now at 32 years old, Moyes should now start planning for the short and long-term future.
