West Ham United are interesting in potentially signing Joakim Maehle from Atalanta in the summer’s transfer window, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The Hammer is working to build up their squad this summer with the addition of Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd and now, according to reports, the East London outfit is looking at Danish international Maehle to add to the back line with Aguerd.

According to the Daily Star’s Paul Brown, Maehle is a player they have looked at before and they are very interested in signing the Atalanta player this summer who was labelled as a ‘machine’ by Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

He told GiveMeSport, “Maehle, I think, is someone who definitely interests West Ham.

“He’s been someone they looked at before; he’s only gone on to bigger and better things since then. I think he too would be a great signing if they could pull that one off.”

TIF Thoughts on Maehle to West Ham…

It looks like the Irons’ priority this summer is to bolster their defence and Maehle, who has been described as a ‘machine’, could be a great addition as the club looks to continue to push the top six teams in the Premier League.

Last season he bagged three goals and two assists for Atalanta in all competitions while, according to Fbref, ranks in the 92nd percentile for progressive passes received, the 90th percentile for non-penalty goals and the 89th for touches in the attacking penalty area compared to players at the position in Europe’s top five leagues.

A fee is yet to be revealed for the transfer but with his contract due to expire in the summer of 2025 the hammer may end up having to spend a bigger fee than his £12.6 million evaluation suggests.
