Journalist Conor McGilligan has urged the Leeds United hierarchy to go and sign Valentin Castellanos this summer.
It looks as though the Argentinian forward could be a hot prospect in the transfer window over the coming months, with West Ham United also linked with a possible move recently.
However, that possible deal to join the Hammers doesn’t look like it will go through, with the reliable Hammers source ExWHUemployee saying:
“Despite being identified as a possible option by Rob Newman, the move now seems unlikely to happen and is far from a done deal as reported.”
While talking on the One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan spoke of how Victor Orta and Angus Kinnear are still in America suppesly chasing a deal and he claimed that Castellanos would be a perfect fit for Jesse Marsch.
He explained: “It looks like Leeds United representatives, Victor Orta and Angus Kinnear are still in New York, trying to allegedly sort a deal for a striker, an unnamed striker, a teenager and all the rumours are sort of pointing towards Valentin Castellanos the New York City FC striker who looks like he’s essentially gone to the top of the pile when it comes to strikers in the MLS.
“He’s been exceptional the past two seasons and really got his way to the top of, not only you know the scoring charts when it comes to goals and assists, but overall contribution to his side as well. It looks like he’s a real top player.
“I’m not going to profess to know absolutely everything about him but what I will say is I will go away and do some research on Castellanos and get back to you guys. But when I’m looking at a profile for Jesse Marsch’s side, this guy looks like he’d be absolutely perfect.”

A recent report from LeedsLive did indeed claim that some senior members of the club were ‘spotted’ in New York ahead of potential transfer talks with the 23-year-old.
Having scored 11 goals in 17 outings across all competitions this season, it’s easy to see why Leeds may be chasing Castellanos’ signature.
In that same report by LeedsLive, they compare him to Carlos Tevez while praising he ‘tenacious’ work rate and ability to press defenders. And with McGilligan clearly believing that the striker would suit the way Marsch wants to set up his team, this deal could be a great bit of business.
