Antonio Conte has been prompted to sign Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn this summer by Sky Sports man Michael Bridge.

A recent report from The Telegraph revealed that the club have their ‘targets’ set on McGinn this summer with the Scotland international said to be ‘highly rated’ by the north London club.

The 27-year-old is said to be valued at £40m by his Villa and with The Times claiming that Conte is willing to offload a raft of his current players as well as the £150m cash injection from owners ENIC, he is likely to have the resources to fund a major overhaul.

Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has suggested that Tottenham have been discussing potential targets in the engine room and with the Italian manager’s approval, Bridge has backed the club to commit to a deal for the man former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell called “priceless”.

He told This is Futbol: “I didn’t think he was at the level that Conte would like, but if Conte wants him, then that’s good enough for me.

I saw him against Burnley on Thursday [19th May] for Sky, he was outstanding. But how much would Aston Villa want?”

Is John McGinn worth £40million?

TIF Thoughts on McGinn to Spurs…

According to WhoScored, McGinn was Villa’s top performer this season averaging a 7.17 rating per 90 minutes and he would be a steady performer in the middle of the park for the Whites.

He made the most tackles (104) and played the most passes into the 18-yard-box out of all his teammates this term further demonstrating his effectiveness on both sides of the ball.

Compared to current Spurs enforcer Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg the reported target produces more shot-creating actions per 90 and boasts a better tackle success rate according to FBref meaning he could be a very valuable addition to Conte’s side if they do decide to pursue him.

  • Andy_Villa says:

McGinn is not for sale to Spurs or anybody…

Villa have very wealthy ambitious owners worth over £10 billion, so we do not need to sell any players to any club.

We are not the same club most seem to think we still are because our wealth has gone under the radar as it’s not “dirty” money & the media have not taken much notice of us.

So McGinn, or any player, will not be sold unless it is one our terms.

And John McGinn is a key player going forward for Aston Villa Football Club.

No John McGinn is not worth 40 million. He is worth far more and any bidding should start at least 50 million. So Spuds it is time to put up or shut up. Or is it just hot air again from Levy who, let us remember, once bid 25 million for Jack Grealish. How did that work out Daniel?
