Journalist Rob Blanchette has suggested that Pau Torres to Manchester United is likely but their current centre-backs need sorting.
Blanchette was speaking on The Done Deal Show off the back of reports suggesting that Torres was being ‘discussed’ as a potential target this summer.
Almost a year on from the initial links, and having fulfiled his desire of playing Champions League football with Villarreal it has been suggested by Blanchette that the 25-year-old won’t be at the Yellow Submarine come the start of the new campaign.
However, there is thought to be doubt still within the club about Harry Maguire and the journalist has pointed out that the deal won’t be straightforward despite United being favourites for the defender.
Speaking on The Done Deal Show on YouTube he said:
“Manchester United have rekindled that relationship with his representatives now, so I do think that again, he will definitely leave Villarreal. Manchester United seems the most likely destination.
“It really depends on whether they get down to the crunch and find that they’re going to give Harry Maguire another go.
“So I think that this seems to be where we stand, is that they want to give Maguire another go and they want to see what he can do with Varane, but they’re also very aware that they probably will move on maybe one or two other centre-backs, which means that they will have an opening there in the squad.”

TIF Thoughts on Torres to United…
The Red Devils finished with their lowest ever points total in the Premier League in the season just past which epitomised their fall from grace almost a decade on from Sir Alex Ferguson’s farewell triumph.
Their goal difference of zero was particularly striking considering their sixth-place finish but incoming boss Erik ten Hag seems destined to put things right and the defence looks to be one of his priorities and the £45m-rated Torres would be a shoo-in at the heart of the Reds defence after another fine season at the Ceramica.
He was an ever-present in the Unai Emery-led side that made it all the way to the Champions League semi-final having competed twice against United in the group stage. He was also called ‘amazing’ by Emery.
He has been heralded as ‘sensational’ by his national team boss Luis Enrique and at 25 he is only going to get better meaning the Old Trafford executives would be wise to move on Eric Bailly perhaps with Fabrizio Romano previously suggesting that the Ivorian centre-back is questioning his future at the club.
