Tottenham Hotspur may have been handed a huge injury boost ahead of the new season after what was spotted on Sunday in north London.

Matt Doherty was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign last month after a strong challenge in the victory over Aston Villa caused the Irishman ligament damage.

The right wing-back was not forced to undergo surgery, however, he had been spotted wearing a protective leg brace in a Spurs game recently showing the extent of the damage done.

However, just weeks on, Doherty was seen at Spurs’ victory over Burnley and there were no signs of the 30-year-old wearing the leg protection as he walked freely without crutches, too.

Doherty was initially spotted during the half-time break with the two clubs seen arguing in the tunnel over the penalty awarded for Spurs just before the interval.

Only one game remains in Tottenham’s 2021/22 Premier League campaign, but the image would certainly suggest Doherty is making good progress in his recovery efforts.

TIF Thoughts on Doherty’s recovery…

This image will provide Spurs fans with a lot of optimism over Doherty making a full and speedy recovery ahead of the new campaign, with the Irishman finding his feet under Antonio Conte.

In the six Premier League games before the injury sustained against Villa, Doherty had provided the Lilywhites with two goals and three assists from the right wing-back position.

Although Emerson Royal has shown signs of improvement recently, the Brazilian does perhaps not provide the same offensive threat as Doherty and we think Spurs fans will be pining to see the 30-year-old return.
