Sky Sports reporter Jamie Weir has slammed Declan Rice’s actions in the tunnel after West Ham crashed out of the Europa League.

Rice was caught accusing the referee of cheating after the Frankfurt game in the Europa League on Thursday night, he said “you’ve probably been paid” and shouted “corruption” at the officials in a video that has emerged online from the tunnel.

The English midfielder has been an excellent performer for the Hammers throughout the season, and he has barely missed a game, featuring in 47 games in all competitions, including 10 in the Europa League where he has chipped in with three goals.

Rice has been heavily linked with a move away from West Ham ahead of the summer transfer window, with Manchester United showing heavy interest in his services.

After the video has emerged, Weir took to Twitter and said that you can’t be doing things as Rice did after the game towards the referee.

“I’m a big Declan Rice fan. As a player and a person. But this is bad. You cannot be accusing referees of corruption. Very poor,” Weir said.

TIF Thoughts on Jamie Weir’s comments…

Rice has been the stand out performer for the Hammers this season, in the Europa League, he has the highest average player rating in the squad (7.39), the highest amount of accurate passes per game on average (49.5), and he made the most interceptions on average per game (2.2) as per SofaScore.

However, this does not excuse him for the actions after the game, it may have been a case of 10 years ago this may not have been captured and nobody would know, but because of the cameras now, you could argue that he has to be smarter.

Although, it was in the heat of the moment, and with Rice being such a consistent performer for the Hammers in the competition, it must have been hard to go crashing out at the final hurdle before the final.
