Newcastle United will end their first season with PIF owning the club on Sunday with a game at Turf Moor against Burnley, but Eddie Howe will be forced into changes as Fabian Schar looks set to miss out.

The Swiss defender was forced off against Arsenal on Monday as his side recorded a 2-0 win over the top-four chasing Gunners. He was knocked out following a horrible collision with Eddie Nketiah.

Do Newcastle have the best atmosphere in PL?

Yes!

No!

No!

Although concussion protocols would allow Schar to play again, Newcastle have nothing to play for except a slightly higher finish in the Premier League table, so there’s no need to risk Schar.

Injury expert and Sky Sports contributor Ben Dinnery said something similar to this in his latest round-up on YouTube. He said: “There’s a brain injury there, and I just think there’s too much risk for the likes of Fabian Schar to be thrown back in.

“It could be Jamaal Lascelles is paired alongside Dan Burn.”

TIF Thoughts on Fabian Schar’s situation…

It would be foolish to play Schar after such a serious collision less than a week ago, so we can see why Dinnery thinks it’s too risky to field the Swiss defender on Sunday. Howe has ample cover available to him and Newcastle can’t achieve anything bar a few extra places in the table if results go their way.

Schar has gained plenty of plaudits this term – with journalist Lee Ryder labelling his recent performance against Brighton & Hove Albion as ‘excellent’, showing how vital he has been to Newcastle’s revival under Howe.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Regardless of the result this weekend, it has been a tremendous season for Howe, who has saved Newcastle, who looked doomed after the first 14 games, so to have guided them to safety and within touching distance of the top half shows how remarkable the job he’s done has been.
