Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Fabian Schar signing a new contract at St James’s Park is massive for Eddie Howe.

Fabian Schar has been re-introduced to the Newcastle United side since the arrival of Eddie Howe, and his return has come with good form, as the Magpies now sit in the top half of the Premier League, when before they were in the bottom three when Howe first took over.

The Swiss international was recently handed a new two-year deal with the club, and as the Magpies are set to have a busy transfer window, this is a real sign of confidence shown in the defender.

Due to Howe deciding to bring back Schar regularly into the side, Jones has highlighted to GiveMeSport that the club offering him a new deal, is a sign of confidence in the manager’s decisions.

It’s been a massive boost for Eddie Howe because it shows that the club has confidence in his own vision and shows that Eddie Howe has got a big say on how this team shapes up for the future,” Jones said.

TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’s comments…

Schar has been impressive since his introduction back into the Newcastle side, and in the Premier League, he makes the third most clearances on average per game (3.9), he makes the fourth most interceptions on average per game (1.3) and he makes the third most amount of accurate passes on average per game (27.5), as per Sofascore.

With Newcastle’s new fortune after the Saudi takeover, the Magpies are set to bring in a new haul of players into the club, so it is a real testament to Schar that he has earned himself a new deal, and it may be an indication that he will be in the long term plans of the club.
