Journalist Josh Holland has claimed Ibrahim Sangare is destined for a move to the Premier League and Aston Villa are one of the clubs interested.

There have been recent reports suggesting that Ibrahim Sangare has been linked with a move to the Premier League and Aston Villa are one of the clubs interested in him. However, Steven Gerrard may face stiff competition from Leicester City who are also monitoring the Ivorian’s progress.

Ibrahim Sangare has been a mainstay in the PSV Eindhoven side this season, he has featured 46 times in all competitions whilst scoring four goals and registering three assists.

With the suggestion that Sangare could be on the move to Villa Park, Holland told FootballFanCast that he is destined for a move to the Premier League.

Do you think Sangare should join Villa?

“I think he’s destined for a move to the Premier League, whether that be to Leicester or to Villa. I think both clubs need a defensive midfielder, so it’s going to be an interesting battle for them to bring him in,” Holland said.

We noted two possible effects for Aston Villa if Sangare joined the club in the summer.

Gerrard will be buzzing

Sangare has been one of the standout performers for PSV this season, in the Eredivisie, he has the third-highest average player rating in the squad (7.39), he has 3.3 tackles on average per game which is the most in the squad, and has also the second most amount of interceptions on average per game for his side (2.4), as per Sofascore.

Gerrard showed that he wasn’t happy with his current squad in the January transfer window when he shipped off Matt Targett on loan and brought in Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Digne to Villa Park. So, we think he will be buzzing to bring in a player of Sangare’s talent to strengthen the squad even further.

Replacement for Douglas Luiz

Douglas Luiz has been heavily linked with a move away from Villa Park in the summer, so Gerrard may have to look to replace him and find a new central partner for John McGinn in the upcoming transfer window.

Luiz is a player that has missed parts of the season due to injury, meaning he has started 26 games in the Premier League for Villa.

With the £14.4m-rated midfielder barely missing a game for PSV this season, he could be a suitable replacement for Luiz, especially as he is evidently available for selection on a more regular basis.
