Danny Ings could be sweating over his future after Aston Villa were urged to make a move for an exciting new striker.

Right now, Darwin Nunez seems to be one of the most sought after talents in European football. Indeed, the likes of  Manchester United Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United have all been linked with the Benfica ace in recent times.

However, Aston Villa’s name is also included on the list and after some new comments about that possible deal, Ings may be keeping a nervous eye on how things could develop.

Nunez linked

Indeed, the Benfica forward’s future was the topic of discussion for journalist Josh Holland recently. Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Holland seemed urge manager Steven Gerrard to go out and make the ‘outstanding’ talent a Villa man.

He said: “Bringing in players like Nunez would be outstanding. Can they do it? We don’t know, but it’d be a good talking topic if it happens.”

With many clubs linked with the player too, this deal would be rather hard to pull off as Holland mentions. But, the Villans have spent big over the last few transfer windows, and moves for players such as Philippe Coutinho show they’re not afraid to chase high-profile stars.

With that in mind, it would be a little naive to completely rule out the chance of a move to Birmingham for the Uruguayan just yet.

Ings form

It’s easy to see why Nunez is so highly rated too. This season, has 34 goals and four assists in 40 appearances across all competitions – including goals against Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Liverpool in the Champions League (via Transfermarkt).

Ings, on the other hand, has endured a far less glamorous campaign. Indeed, the Villa man has scored just six goals in the Premier League this term, and failed to score in his one FA Cup outing too. Last weekend, at least, he got a goal and an assist Norwich City, but this was only his third goal of the calendar year.

It’s fair to say he’s not had the greatest of debut campaigns and has struggled to live up to the £25m price tag slapped on him when he made the move from Southampton last summer.

If Gerrard wants an upgrade up top, Nunez could be a target. Of course, he won’t come cheap and with Ings a saleable asset who isn’t quite performing, he might consider moving the Englishman on in the summer to make way for the Benfica forward.

All in all, the 29-year-old might need to bang a few more goals in between now and the end of the season if he wants to keep his place in the Villa squad next term.
