Everton supporters will be furious as footage emerged on Twitter of a potential red card incident on Sunday which did not go in their favour, which was aired live on Sky Sports.

Frank Lampard’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat in the Merseyside derby on the weekend, however, after this footage emerged, many fans will feel they were not helped by the officials.

Should Mane have been sent off?

The footage showed an incident in the first half between a group of players from either side which saw Sadio Mane put his hand in the face of Mason Holgate and Allan.

Tempers flared after Richarlison was left on the floor through injury and the Liverpool players refused to kick the ball out of play which then saw Abdoulaye Doucoure take out Fabinho to bring a halt to play.

Mane was consequently booked for the incident, however, that will not comfort many Everton fans given the score was still 0-0 going into the break.

TIF Thoughts on the footage…

Graeme Souness admitted that the attacker was lucky to get away without receiving a red card.

We are absolutely stunned Mane was able to continue playing after these two incidents in the space of a matter of seconds, but it did highlight the lack of control the referee, Stuart Attwell, had on the game.

Even down to the small details such as time-wasting, Attwell did not seem to have any control on the game and this was shown as the two sets of players came rushing together after the challenge on Doucoure.

However, we do expect VAR and his linesmen to help the referee out in this situation as it is hard to imagine how Attwell would have given Mane a yellow card had he seen the incidents properly.
