Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate did not impress journalist Gordon Parks on Sunday afternoon in the Bhoys’ disappointing cup defeat at Hampden Park.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were forced to extra time in the game against their city rivals despite taking a 1-0 lead in the second half.

However, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men forced the game to extra time and despite playing 120 minutes on Thursday night in Europe, it was Rangers who prevailed.

Hatate was replaced deep into extra time with David Turnbull coming on in his place as the Bhoys searched for a winner, at the time.

And it was apparent the Japanese midfielder did not put in a performance which will impress Postecoglou with Parks awarding him with just a 5/10:

“Caught in possession to gift Rangers early chance and curled a chance wide of a post in wasteful 53rd minute opportunity from 18-yards,” wrote Parks.

“Too often second best in 50-50 challenges and dominated by Jack and Lundstram for long spells. Lack of authority in engine room.”

TIF Thoughts on Hatate’s display…

Despite being rated so poorly by Parks, Hatate did feature for the majority of the game with Tom Rogic being the early substitute from the midfield three that started.

Hatate has had his struggles in recent weeks in an attacking sense which many would have hoped to have been put behind him with his goal ad assist against St. Johnstone last week.

However, that did not seem to be the case at Hampden with the 24-year-old failing to land any of his three shots on the Rangers goal (via Goal).
